Elaine Bruckner, Ph.D.

Dr. Elaine Bruckner received her B.A. in biopsychology from Lafayette College. She earned her masters and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from the University of Health Sciences, The Chicago Medical School, and completed her postdoctoral fellowship in cognitive therapy at the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Cognitive Therapy. 

She has co-authored a chapter on the environmental influences on obesity and has made several presentations at national conferences in the area of health promotion and disease prevention.

Dr. Bruckner specializes in cognitive therapy for the treatment of anxiety disorders, depression, weight management, and health-related issues. She is a clinical associate at Bowling Green State University and has staff privileges at Wood County Hospital.

Ellen Greene Bush, Ph.D.

Dr. Bush specializes in health psychology, including work with patients coping with chronic illness and psycho-physiological disorders such as headache, hypertension, and chronic pain. She practices several relaxation and biofeedback techniques for stress management. Dr. Bush is also interested in the assessment and treatment of women's issues, including depression anxiety, relationship difficulties, and sexual dysfunctions.

Dr. Bush holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Bowling Green State University, and an M.S. in nursing from The Ohio State University. She completed her internship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and postdoctoral work at The University of Toledo and the Medical College of Ohio.

Brenda Cole, Ph.D.

Brenda Cole, PhD

Dr. Brenda Cole is joining the staff at Psychological Resources after competing over 10 years of work and research as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in health psychology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC).

Through her work at UPMC, along with 7 years of private practice, she brings to Psychological Resources a rich back ground in treating a wide range of mental health concerns, an inviting sense of humor, and welcoming clinical style.

She offers services addressing general mental health problems such as depression or anxiety for teenagers and adults. In addition, she has three areas of specialization: couples therapy, coping with illness, and addressing sexual orientation issues.

A unique aspect of Dr. Cole's work is that she has conducted extensive research on the integration of spirituality within psychotherapy. For those clients for whom spirituality and religion are an important aspect of their well-being, she can work with them to integrate these elements within the therapy process.

 Sandra H. Frank, MSW, LISW, DCSW

 Ms. Sandra Frank received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Goddard College and her MSW from the University of Michigan. She is a Licensed Independent Social Worker by the State of Ohio Counselor and Social Worker Board, and is licenced by the Marriage and Family Therapist Board. She is also a Diplomate of the Academy of Certified Social Workers.

Ms. Frank has 30 years of experience dealing with a variety of personal and couples issues, including depression, anxiety and personality disorders, primarily using cognitive-behavioral therapy. Ms. Franks is also a trained mediator and uses a win-win approach in working with couples.

Annette Mahoney, Ph.D.

Dr. Annette Mahoney graduated from Rice University in 1984 with a double major in Psychology and Religious Studies. She earned her doctoral degree in clinical psychology in 1992 from the University of Houston before joining the faculty at Bowling Green State University in 1994. She joined Psychological Resources in 2010.

Dr. Mahoney sees adults, couples, and families with children and adolescents, relying on a developmental or life span perspective, family systems and cognitive behavioral strategies. Her interest areas include childhood behavioral and emotional difficulties, couple/marital distress, depression, anxiety, anger management, adjustment difficulties, and stress management.

Dr. Mahoney is a Professor of Psychology at Bowling Green State University and teaches both undergraduate and graduate students. More information about her relatively unique research on the role of spirituality and religion in family life can be found at http://www.bgsu.edu/departments/psych/.

Robert A. Muehleisen, Ph.D.

Dr. Muehleisen specializes in the treatment of adolescents and adults with a focus on family and marital therapy. He earned his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Ohio University in 1976, and has been in private practice since 1978.

Dr. Muehleisen is an adjunct faculty member of the Department of Psychology at Bowling Green State University, where he has taught marital and family psychotherapy, and supervises doctoral students. He is also trained in divorce mediation and is an Advanced Practitioner Mediator in the Association for Conflict Resolution.

Dr. Muehleisen is a past-president of the Northwest Ohio Society of Professional Psychology, a board member of the Mediation Association of Northwest Ohio, and  has served as Chair of the Committee on Ethical Practices of the Ohio Psychological Association. He is on staff at The Toledo Hospital.

Eric R. Nicely, Ph.D.

Dr. Nicely works with children, adolescents and adults, and specializes in the treatment of anxiety, depression, adjustment, and marital problems, health psychology and chemical dependency. He also is experienced in forensic evaluations, divorce mediation, and ADHD assessment.

Dr. Nicely earned his Ph.D. in Counseling and Clinical Psychology from the University of Toledo, and completed his internship at The Toledo Hospital. He founded the Wood County Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse, and for five years was the Program Director for the Alcoholism Treatment Center at The Toledo Hospital. He has also been a trustee of the Ohio Chemical Dependency Counselors Credentialing Board.

Dr. Nicely has been in private practice since 1988, and continues to consult at a number of agencies in Northwest Ohio. He is on staff at Wood County Hospital, St. Vincent Medical Center, and St. Luke\'s Hospital.

Marlys J. Reetz, Ph.D

Dr. Reetz has areas of expertise in depression and other affective disorders, marital therapy, eating disorders, sexual identification issues, stress reduction, psychological trauma, and grief. She works with adolescents, adults, and families in transition.

For sixteen years, Dr. Reetz was associated with the Wood County Mental Health Clinic. For ten of these years, she was Director of Outpatient Services. She is a part-time Associate Professor of Psychology at Bowling Green State University. She is on staff at Wood County Hospital.

Dr. Reetz earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from BGSU and completed her internship at The Ohio State University Medical School competing rotations in adult and child psychiatric medicine

 Jean A. Roberts, Ph.D., LPCC-S

Dr. Jean Roberts is a Licensed  Professional Clinical Counselor with supervision endorsement. She specializes in working with children, adolescents and  families, but also has extensive experience working with adults. Dr. Roberts has worked in various settings, including juvenile court, residential treatment, community mental-health, schools, and private practice. Her interest areas include depression, anxiety, anger management, domestic violence and LGBT issues. Dr. Roberts received her PhD from the University of Toledo and is currently completing postdoctoral supervision for independent licensure in psychology.

Suzanne L. Smitley, Ph.D.

Dr. Smitley specializes in work with children and their families. She also works extensively in adult and marital therapy. Dr. Smitley earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Toledo and completed her internship at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Dr. Smitley has been in private practice since 1987 and is a past board member of the Mental Health Association of Lucas County. She is a part-time Associate Professor of Psychology at Bowling Green State University where she supervises graduate students. In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Smitley is on staff at Flower Hospital, The Toledo Hospital, and Toledo Children's Hospital.

 Carolyn Thompsett, Ph.D.

Dr. Carolyn Tompsett earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from Wayne State University and completed her internship at the Hawthorn Center for children and adolescents in Northville, MI. Dr. Tompsett works with children, adolescents and adults. She has interests in treating depression, anxiety, anger management and substance abuse. Dr. Tompsett specializes in using cognitive-behavioral therapy and parent-focused interventions in the treatment of problem behaviors in children and adolescents. Dr. Tompsett is a full-time Assistant Professor of Psychology at Bowling Green State University.
